Secrets of a Successful Neighborhood Marketing Campaign
Neighborhood marketing is about reaching those people right in your own neighborhood. These campaigns focus on people in a fairly tight geographic location – like a specific zip code or a specific neighborhood. Many small businesses find that a large portion of their customers either work or live nearby, and a strong neighborhood marketing campaign is a great way to reach these customers. Neighborhood campaigns aren’t about big budgets, but rather about being creative and connecting with your local audience.
Get Involved in Your Community
The top goal in neighborhood marketing is to develop lasting relationships within your community in order to build your image and your business. If you want your local community to support you, you will have to support your local community. Get involved in local charity efforts and network with local civic groups. To get your name out in the community, give gift certificates to support local charity auctions, sponsor a little league team, or even host your own neighborhood block party.
Promote Through Your Customers
Word of mouth is great for neighborhood marketing, so listen to what your current customers have to say about your business. Solicit feedback from your customers with customer surveys. You’ll collect useful data, learn what they like and dislike, and demonstrate your concern for their opinions, all at the same time. Also consider rewarding your current customers for new leads they send your way. Referral programs are a great way to reward your loyal brand advocates while expanding your business and bringing in new clients.
Canvas the Neighborhood
At the end of the day it’s all about promoting and spreading word about your local business, which means canvasing your neighborhood with your marketing materials. Here are a few ideas:
•Hang promotional door hangers throughout your area. A good door hanger is very useful when it comes to raising awareness or even as a reminder.
•Ask your current customers if you can place yard signs in their yards to promote your business.
•Send direct mailers to residents and other businesses in your neighborhood. Include a special promotional offer or a freebie, such as a promotional magnet with your business contact information, to get more bang for your marketing buck.
You don’t need to have a big advertising budget to start your own neighborhood marketing campaign. Just remember, neighborhood marketing is about relationships, creativity, and knowing your customers and exceeding their expectations to spread word of mouth and establish yourself in the community. The best campaigns are those that combine the above ideas to promote the community itself along with your business.
